Bedbugs…Beware!
Vacation time is here! A time for family fun which most likely includes travel. It’s important to be aware of your environment and surroundings while away from home. Bedbugs have become prevalent over the recent years, but can be prevented.
It’s important to do an inspection before you get settled into your room. First, place your luggage in the bathroom. The bathroom is the least likely place to find bedbugs.
Here’s how to check for a bedbug infestation: Pull back the linens, and check all the way around and under the mattress and behind the headboard.
Look for blood stains or small black dots that look like mold or ground pepper. Check for the critters too. Bedbugs are about the size and shape of an apple seed, and you may find them hiding in corners or seams of the bedding.
Leaving suitcases and bags on the floor—or on a second spare bed—may be one way to bring home an unwanted souvenir.
For the duration of your trip, keep your bags on the desktop, on top of the dresser, or on a luggage rack in the room. (Don’t leave clothing lying out, either!)
Additional precautions can be taken with luggage at the airport. Wrap your luggage in plastic wrap to keep it safe while “in the mix” with other luggage that may be infested.
Bedbugs can be very expensive and difficult to eradicate and these small preventative steps could be well worth your time. Happy and safe travels to you!!! Enjoy your summer…
